Historical exponent of the so-called Italian “Dark Sound” and active since 1988, TONY TEARS is a genuine artist devoted to experimentation, a cult figure who played in the ranks of Abysmal Grief and Zess and who has nothing to envy of perhaps better-known colleagues such as Paul Chain, early Death SS, Jacula, Antonius Rex, Black Hole and The Black, just to remain in Italian territory.
“La Società degli Eterni” is the new work of the Genoese band, a concept album halfway between a magical pact and the search for the karmic perfection of the soul. “The songs are the result of magical practices that led us to interact with some Entities,” cryptically explains guitarist Anthony ‘Tears’ Polidori. “The album tells the journey we have taken on an esoteric level even before on a musical level, and this also thanks to the contribution of Daniele Donini, a long-time and powerful magician.”
Such an occult research is fully reverberated in the dark metal traced by TONY TEARS’s songwriting, which crosses the occult with Sabbathian doom, progressive rock, gothic and the horror movie soundtracks of the 70s. The feeling is that of witnessing a long initiatory ritual. The Faustian climate intoxicated with magical scents is almost tangible and envelops every track, especially the five that close the album, linked to each other by a thematic thread that culminates in the sumptuous title track and in “Old Souls,” a cover of Paul Williams taken from the soundtrack of Brian De Palma’s “Phantom Of The Paradise” from 1974.
It is time to don your ritual masks and join the Society of the Eternals in the darkness.
