Formed by members of various Hungarian black and death metal bands, PHOSCHYDEUX released their first full-length album, “4 Days Of Bliss In Hell,” on Bandcamp in 2025. I, Voidhanger Records couldn’t miss the opportunity to collect such a dark and fascinating rock/metal gem and add another worthy band to its roster.
An expression of Eastern European nihilism, PHOSCHYDEUX’s style has its roots in doom, stoner-blues and hard rock, but cloaked in a darkness that is typical of extreme metal. Jim Jones sings like a wounded animal, and his raspy vocals – somewhere between that of a Jim Morrison from the slums, a drunken Dax Riggs and the roar of Tex Perkins from Beasts Of Bourbon – is wrapped in the dark, hypnotic melodies crafted by Csanád’s sinuous guitars, while Feka’s thunderous bass and Daux’s ultra-heavy drums create a pernicious, oppressive atmosphere.
The hypnotic overtones of PHOSCHYDEUX’s music don’t evoke colorful hippie fantasies or the reassuring psych dizziness of desert rock, but rather constitute a harsh and merciless fresco of grey urban landscapes, decadence, loneliness, remorse, depression, violence and abuse of all kinds. In “4 Days Of Bliss In Hell,” there’s no trace of hope, drowned in alcohol, drugs and tears; there’s only, as in the best doom metal, the pain of living and the melancholic awareness of the nature of man, sole master of his own personal hell.
